World first Floormanager at Noordpoel Nursery

Noordpoel Nursery is taking a major step toward the future. At its new-build site, the company is opting for a fully automated logistics system from WPS. This includes a world-first: the installation of the first two Floormanagers in a production environment. With this groundbreaking move, Noordpoel is launching a new era in Handsfree Plant Production.

Innovation for the next generation

Following the first Floormanager that will be delivered to Wageningen University & Research for research purposes, Noordpoel Nursery is the first commercial grower worldwide to implement this technology in production.

“We are proud that the very first Floormanagers are being deployed at Noordpoel,” says Michael Meijler, Commercial Manager at WPS. “Interest in this innovation is strong, and we’re grateful to Arnoud and his team for the opportunity to implement it here.”

Complete logistics concept

The new greenhouse will be equipped with a comprehensive WPS automation solution. The system includes SmartFlo conveyor belts that ensure smooth internal logistics and also function as dispatch buffers. In addition, roller-conveyor buffers will be used, both in the packing area for internal flows and outside for finished-goods storage. Complementary solutions will also be provided, including an automatic labeler and the Flexit, a mobile cross conveyor.

The centerpiece of the system is formed by two Floormanagers: WPS’s latest patented innovation. These robots automatically place Noordpoel’s perennials on the growing floor and later space them out, fully automating a major part of the cultivation process. This not only saves time and labor but also ensures optimal use of space.

A first for the industry

Ready for tomorrow

By investing in both automation and robotics, Noordpoel increases flexibility, reduces reliance on physical labor, and supports the long-term employability of its team. At the same time, the nursery gains access to WPS’s most advanced technologies, setting an inspiring example for growers striving toward a future-proof and innovative operation.
